Day 7 of Broncos training camp: Nix-to-Sutton connection on display
ENGLEWOOD — A behind-the-scenes look at Broncos training camp practice Friday with observations and analysis from The Denver Gazette.
Play of the day
Rookie quarterback Bo Nix threaded the needle on a crossing route in 11-on-11 play. Cornerback Pat Surtain blanketed wide receiver Courtland Sutton in coverage. But a pinpoint Nix pass just missed Surtain’s outstretched arm for a 15-yard completion to Sutton.
QB watch
Nix assumed first-team quarterback duties in a run-heavy practice that ended with a two-minute drill. He completed several impressive intermediate throws to create a field goal to close it out. Jarrett Stidham played with the second-team offense with several nice completions. Zach Wilson was QB3.
Stock rising
OLB Thomas Incoom. The second-year pro has been disruptive with at least one sack in several practices this week. Incoom made the roster as an undrafted free agent last season.
Stock falling
QB Zach Wilson. It appears that Wilson is falling out of the QB1 conversation after no reps with the first-team offense since the opening practice with fans at Broncos Park (July 26).
Attendance check
Defensive lineman Jonathan Franklin-Myers returned after missing three training camp practices for personal reasons. Multiple players were given scheduled rest days, including defensive end Zach Allen and running back Audric Estime.
Injury report
Linebacker Justin Strnad (groin) missed Friday practice, but the injury is not considered serious.
What’s next
Training camp continues with practice at 10 a.m. on Saturday at Broncos Park.
