Wildfire burning near Lyons; Boulder County officials order evacuation
The wildfire is burning in the Stone Canyon area
A new wildfire is burning on Tuesday in Boulder County near Lyons and crews are responding to assess the situation.
Vinnie Montez, a deputy with the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, posted a video on the social media platform X just before 2 p.m. Tuesday and said the fire is in the Stone Canyon area.
The Boulder County Sheriff’s Office ordered an evacuation for the Eagle Ridge area due to the wildfire. That is northeast of Lyons, just north of Dowe Flats and south of the Little Thomspon River.

The evacuation order was later expanded to include Indian Mountain.
An evacuation point was set up at the Boulder County Fairgrounds in the Exhibit Building. Animals, large and small, can also be evacuated to the fairgrounds, which is located at 9595 Nelson Road in Longmont.
The Boulder County Office of Disaster Management said the following road closures were put in place around 3 p.m.:

- Lewis Lane from Eagle Ridge Road
- Stone Canyon Drive from Highway 36
- Osprey Lane from Eagle Valley Drive
- Eagle Valley Drive from Stone Canyon Drive
- Nolan Road
- Peregrine Lane from Eagle Valley Drive
- Falcon Lane at Eagle Valley Drive
“We have crews that are responding to size up the situation,” Montez said. “Please stay out of the area and we will update you just as soon as we can.”
Aerial footage from our news partners at 9NEWS appeared to show at least one structure that had been destroyed by flames.
Weather conditions at nearby Vance Brand Airport were at 100 degrees with 6% humidity around the time the fire started, according to official readings from the National Weather Service.
