A woman died of a gunshot wound Monday after she allegedly fired several shots into a Colorado Springs apartment complex, law enforcement officials said.

Police received a 7 p.m. call about a domestic disturbance at Creekside at Palmer Park Apartments, east on Cedar Creek View near Space Center Drive on the city’s east side. The neighborhood is west of Powers Boulevard and north of Galley Road. While officers were responding they learned that a suspect was firing a gun.

A shelter-in-place order was issued as police searched for the woman. Residents were advised to lock their doors and stay away from windows.

Officers found and located the suspect, who ignored commands to surrender, police said. As they set up a “position of advantage,” they heard a single gunshot. The officers later found a woman suffering from a gunshot wound.

“No officers discharged their firearms,” police said.

Medical personnel attempted lifesaving measures, but the woman died at the scene.
