Single-engine plane crashes near Telluride Thursday
A single-engine plane crashed near Dolores Peak southwest of Telluride on Thursday, prompting emergency crews to respond via helicopter.
Denver air traffic control reported the missing plane just after the San Miguel County Sheriff’s Office received a call about smoke near the peak just before 3:30 p.m. Thursday, the office said in a social media post.
Search and rescue teams responded to the scene on the north side of the peak and confirmed that a single-engine plane had crashed in the area, about 15 miles southwest of Telluride, the office said. Additional teams are searching for survivors via helicopter.
