Family disturbance leads to shots fired, arrest: Colorado Springs police

A man was arrested Tuesday after allegedly forcing his way into a family member’s home and firing shots while in their yard on Colorado Springs’ south side, according to police.

A caller to Colorado Springs police around 5:30 p.m. said her uncle forced entry into her home and threatened to kill someone, police said in an online blotter entry.

The incident happened in the 1100 block of Norwood Avenue, near Lake Avenue and Southgate Road.

Police said dispatchers could hear multiple people screaming. Other callers said they saw a man with a gun go between the yard and a detached garage, firing shots into the air.

A bullet hole was found in a neighbor’s home and officers located a .45-caliber handgun in the detached garage, where the suspect lived, police said.

No one was injured.

Delano Hernandez, 31, was eventually arrested and faces multiple felony and misdemeanor charges, including illegal discharge of a firearm, possession of a weapon by a previous offender, obstructing a peace officer and reckless endangerment.
