Fire officials say a family of eight is being relocated after a “rapid” moving fire tore through their townhome in Cimarron Hills on Tuesday.

The Cimarron Hills Fire Department said the fire broke out at around 4 p.m. in the 1200 block of Cree Drive, located north of the Peterson Space Force Base in unincorporated El Paso County. The department said the fire was contained to one unit that was part of a 6-plex building.

Crews arrived to see a plume of smoke from a blaze burning in the top unit. Several other agencies — from Falcon, Colorado Springs and Security — arrived to assist.

Images provided by the department show a snapshot of the wreckage.

The American Red Cross is helping the family find somewhere else to live following their displacement, according to officials.

The fire’s cause is still under investigation. No injuries were reported.
