Monday’s prep roundup
Boys’ Basketball
Monarch 52, Sierra 43
At Fairview: In the first game of the Fairview Festival doubleheader, the Coyotes (4-1 overall) played a superior second half to give them the nine-point win over the Stallions (1-2). The two teams went into halftime tied 22-22, but Sierra was outscored 30-21 in the final 16 minutes, giving it a second-straight loss. Ke’andre Lewis led all Stallion scorers with 17 points, despite not scoring at all in the fourth quarter.
Colorado Springs School 43, Pikes Peak Christian 41
At Pikes Peak Christian: Chris Meadows and Rob Morley each scored 11 for the Kodiaks (3-1 overall) who got back in the win column. Pikes Peak Christian led by as many as six in the fourth quarter, but the Kodiaks were able to battle back and claim a tough early season road victory.
Girls’ Basketball
Colorado Springs School 52, Pikes Peak Christian 6
At Pikes Peak Christian: Natalya Stepleton’s 16 points were more than enough for the Colorado Springs School (2-1 overall) as it held its second opponent of the year to less than 10 points. The Eagles (0-3) look to get on the winning trail this weekend when they face Cripple Creek-Victor in the Kodiak Classic.
Ice Hockey
Regis Jesuit 4, Air Academy 3
At Sertich: An early power-play goal from Travis Work gave the Kadets (1-1 overall) a 1-0 lead, but it wouldn’t hold up. Regis Jesuit (2-0) battled back to take leads of 2-1 and 3-2. Work’s second goal of the night tied the game at 3-3, but the Raiders responded less than a minute later with what became the game-winning goal.
Pine Creek 6, Cheyenne Mountain 5
At Sertich: A 5-4 lead late in the third period wasn’t good enough for Cheyenne Mountain (0-2 overall). The Eagles (1-1-1) tied the game with a power-play goal late in the third and then Riley Gregory found the net with 2:51 left in overtime to give his team its first win of the season.
