Colorado Springs police arrest ‘known prolific offender’ on multiple warrants
Mario Beltran, 35, whom police call a “known prolific offender,” was arrested Thursday night after entering a business in the 7100 block of North Academy Boulevard, according to Colorado Springs police.
The department’s specialized Metro Retail, Pawn, Metal and Organized Crime Unit, which targets organized retail crime, serial shoplifting, stolen goods that show up at pawn shops and other illegal activity, was extensively investigating Beltran and had issued an active arrest warrant.
Beltran also had warrants out for his arrest from other jurisdictions, including Denver, Pueblo and El Paso County Sheriff’s Office. One is a felony warrant and three are misdemeanor counts, two on failure to appear in court, according to the El Paso County booking log.
Police chased Beltran after he ran out of the store and sprinted through the parking lot. He was tasered and apprehended, then taken by medical personnel to a hospital to be treated for fentanyl use, according to police.
Various law enforcement agencies responded to the scene to help capture Beltran. Police said Falcon Patrol, the K9 Unit and the Real Time Crime Center were “crucial in the operation.”
Beltran is in the El Paso County jail on a no-bond hold for all warrants, jail records show.
