The best Mexican food in Colorado Springs? The vote is in
In this weekly feature, we’re celebrating the best of Colorado Springs’ food and drink scene ー as determined by voters in the 2026 Best of the Springs (thebestofthesprings.com). We’ll throw in our own recommendation, too.
Up this week: Mexican.
Gold: The Rey
It was a sad day in 2022 when the family behind downtown’s El Taco Rey closed. Now, customers of the past 45 years flock to the food truck serving the beloved burritos, tostadas, chicharrones and more. Perhaps most beloved: the green chili. Check The Rey’s Facebook page for locations

Silver: Crystal Park Cantina
Hide as it might in the hills of Manitou Springs, locals know exactly where to go for their favorite margaritas and classics with fresh twists. Example: a delightful alfredo tomatillo that is one option to smother upon enchiladas and burritos. The fish tacos and queso are also go-tos. 178 Crystal Park Road
Bronze: Vaqueros Mexican Restaurant & Taqueria
Along with Colorado Springs’ northside, Vaqueros has built followings in Vail and Steamboat Springs. With a big menu and big portions — think sizzling fajita skillets, salad bowls and round marg glasses filled to the brim — it’s easy to imagine the concept working anywhere. 9605 Prominent Point, 261 Kaycee Case Place
Our recommendation: Tacos El Amigo
Authentic, no-nonsense, darn good food. It’s hard to choose between the asada, carnitas, al pastor, pollo and barbacoa tacos, so you might want to get one of each. But save some room for the birria. And the chimichangas. Multiple locations
