Gazette Preps Peak Performer: Sierra’s Keaton Banks torches Mitchell for five rushing TDs

Keaton Banks … what an ideal name for a running back who’s been money for Sierra on the football field.

Banks, this week’s Gazette Preps Peak Performer, ran 10 times for 222 yards and five touchdowns in a 52-6 victory against Mitchell last week.

The Sierra halfback ran well past his total yardage from his freshman year, where Banks finished with 80 yards on 35 carries. Banks, who averaged 22.2 yards per attempt against the Marauders, shook loose from the defense for a 68-yard score in the game, which surpassed his previous longest of 54 yards Aug. 29 against Alameda.

Against Alameda, Banks also excelled to give the Stallions their first win of the season. Banks ended the night with 162 yards on 15 carries along with three touchdowns.

Following Banks’ performance against Mitchell, the Stallions sophomore is tied for second in the state with eight rushing touchdowns. The Stallions also own a 2-1 record and have a two-game winning streak for the first time since 2023.

Sierra has a bye week and heads to Thornton (1-1) at 7 p.m. Sept. 18 to face the Trojans. Should the Stallions earn the victory, it would mark their first three-game winning streak in over a decade after the Stallions opened the 2014 season 5-0.
