One person is dead following a motorcycle crash along Highway 24 Monday afternoon.

The crash occurred at about 12:57 p.m. along westbound Highway 24 at mile marker 295 south of Cascade, according to Colorado State Patrol.

An initial investigation found that the motorcycle, ridden by a 34-year-old man, was traveling westbound before going off the right side of the road.

The motorcycle then struck the side of the mountain and ejected the rider. He was transported to a hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased. The rider’s identity will be released by the El Paso County coroner after the next-of-kin have been notified.

The left lane of westbound Highway 24 is open, while the right lane remains shut down for the ongoing investigation, the Gazette’s new partner KOAA first reported.
