Pueblo police fatally shoot man after domestic incident, kidnapping
Pueblo police fatally shot a man during a domestic incident on Saturday, according to a news release.
Officers responded at about 7:50 p.m. to a call about a domestic disturbance involving weapons at a home in the 400 block of West Ninth Street, where an armed man was threatening to shoot a woman inside the home as well as anyone who approached it, police said.
The man had a restraining order prohibiting him from going near her or her infant, according to the release.
After additional officers set up a perimeter around the block, the man ran out of the home carrying the baby, police said. He ran to a parking lot on 10th Street and Grand Avenue and reached into his backpack.
Officers told the man to put the baby down and he complied, placing the infant in a nearby stroller. When he kept reaching into his backpack despite being ordered to stop, an officer shot him, officials said.
The man, whose name has not yet been released, was pronounced dead at a hospital. The female victim was taken to the hospital and discharged “with no serious injuries,” police said. The baby was reportedly unharmed.
“Involved officers have been placed on administrative leave per department policy,” the release stated.
