Officers assaulted in separate incidents on Sunday: Colorado Springs police

Colorado Springs police officers were assaulted in separate incidents on Sunday, law enforcement officials said.

At about 8 a.m., an officer saw a suspected shoplifter leaving a store in the 1500 block of Space Center Drive and tried to stop him, according to an online blotter entry. When the officer and the suspect went down on the ground, the man punched the officer in the face, police said.

A civilian helped the officer get the suspect under control, and the officer was treated for minor injuries.

Aaron Wiebe, 29, faces multiple charges including assault on a peace officer, police said.

At about 11:50 a.m., officers went to a workplace in the 400 block of West Garden of the Gods Road to arrest Jullisa Pruiett, who was suspected of a domestic assault. While they were speaking with Pruiett, she “became aggressive” and assaulted both officers, police said.

The officers were able to get her under control and took her into custody.

Pruiett faces two charges of second-degree assault for attacking the officers as well as a charge of third-degree assault for the original domestic violence case, police said.

The officers sustained minor injuries and remained on duty.
