Air Force will honor former football coach Fisher DeBerry with statue outside Falcon Stadium
Fisher DeBerry will greet spectators as they enter Falcon Stadium in perpetuity.
A statue of the legendary Air Force football coach will be erected outside the east side of the stadium, with an unveiling and dedication ceremony scheduled for 2 p.m. Sept. 11.
DeBerry, a member of the College Football Hall of Fame, won 169 games with the Falcons from 1984-2006. He finished with a .608 winning percentage, led the program to 12 bowl games and went 34-8 vs. Army and Navy.
“The special event celebrates DeBerry’s extraordinary impact on Air Force football and the countless cadet-athletes he coached and mentored throughout his storied career,” a press release from Air Force Athletics stated.
The statue will depict DeBerry in an active coaching stance and will be located just to the north of the main entrance of the Kucera Legacy Center.
DeBerry is scheduled to be a featured speaker at the ceremony, along with superintendent Lt. Gen. Paul Moga, interim athletic director and CEO of the Air Force Academy Athletic Corp. Nancy Hixson, coach Troy Calhoun and U.S. Air Force Academy Association and Foundation President and CEO Mark Hille.
