Fargo, N.D.: Nathan Hayes throws two touchdown passes to help North Dakota State defeat Jacksonville State. This game marks the Bison’s debut in the Football Bowl Subdivision and in the Mountain West Conference. Hayes completed 14 of 22 passes for 160 yards with one interception. Blake Schiltz recovers a ball in the end zone for a score, and Drew Klein makes three field goals. Jacksonville State answers in the first quarter with Caden Creel’s 8-yard touchdown run. The Gamecocks are held to 170 yards of offense and struggle on third-down conversions. North Dakota State has won 28 straight home openers.

Memphis 27, UNLV 21

Las Vegas: Marcus Stokes threw for 223 yards and two touchdowns as Memphis rattled off the final 13 points to beat UNLV on Saturday night in a season opener for both teams. The win helped Charles Huff become the first Tigers head coach to win a road debut game. Stokes completed 15 of 26 passes with no turnovers, while Jaylin Carter rushed for 97 yards and a touchdown on 15 carries. UNLV took a 14-7 halftime lead behind Jackson Arnold, who threw a 38-yard touchdown pass to Tavian McNair and added a 6-yard touchdown run. The Rebels had won their previous 11 games when leading at the break, with their last loss coming against Syracuse on Oct. 4, 2024.

Stanford 37, Hawaii 27

Stanford Calif.: Micah Ford scored his third touchdown on a 2-yard run with 1:41 to play and Stanford rallied after nearly blowing a 16-point lead in the fourth quarter to beat Hawaii in the first game under new coach Tavita Pritchard. Davis Warren threw for 310 yards and one touchdown in his debut for the Cardinal and engineered the game-winning drive after Hawaii had scored three touchdowns in the fourth quarter to turn a 23-7 deficit into a 27-23 lead. But instead of the biggest fourth-quarter comeback in school history, the Rainbow Warriors fell just short of beating the Cardinal for the second straight year in the season opener.
