5 arrested after crowd interferes with officers responding to bar fight: Colorado Springs police
Several people were arrested on Saturday afternoon after a crowd interfered with officers trying to break up a fight outside a downtown bar, according to Colorado Springs police.
The incident took place at about 1:40 a.m. when officers with CSPD’s Downtown Area Response Team responded to a disturbance outside a bar on Tejon Street and were surrounded by onlookers, “creating a hazardous scene,” police said. A second fight broke out in the same crowd a short time later. Five people were arrested and released on summonses.
The incident was the latest in what police say is a recent trend of bystanders interfering with DART and Gold Hill patrol officers as they attempt to deescalate fights. In one such incident, an officer suffered a minor leg injury, officials said.
No injuries were reported in Saturday’s incident.
