Broncos cut 10 players, to place FB Adam Prentice on practice squad

The Broncos cut at least 10 players Saturday, and they plan for fullback Adam Prentice to start the season on the practice squad.

None of the players let go were on the official NFL transaction wire Saturday. Teams must be down to 53 by 4 p.m. Sunday.

An NFL source said the Broncos plan to release Prentice on Sunday, but as a vested veteran, he will not go through waivers. The plan is for Prentice, who had a strong preseason, to join Denver’s practice squad with the expectation he will be elevated for each of the first three games. The expectation is that Denver then will sign him to the 53-man roster.

Sources and media reports said players who were informed Saturday they are being let go are defensive linemen Jordan Miller and Israel Antwine, wide receivers Joseph Manjack and Kyrese Rowan, tackles Foster Sarell and Reid Holskey, offensive lineman Lecitus Smith, outside linebacker Ron Stone Jr., safety Parker Robertson and cornerback Ricardo Hallman.

The Broncos started Saturday with 91 players on the roster. The offseason limit is 90, but they got an offseason international exemption for punter Jeremy Crawshaw, a native of Australia.

During the preseason, Prentice had seven carries for 18 yards and scored two touchdowns. By placing him on the practice squad, that would enable the Broncos to protect a young player who would be exposed to waivers by keeping him on the 53-man roster.

Players with fewer than four years of experience are exposed to waivers if let go. The Broncos are likely to do the same maneuver with some other vested veterans.

Broncos coach Sean Payton used the same maneuver with Prentice last season and also did it with fullback Michael Burton in 2024. Prentice signed a one-year deal in March for the minimum salary of $1.215 million, with $400,000 guaranteed. The expectation is he will then sign another contract after three regular-season games.

Among the players let go Saturday, three were signed in the past week. The Broncos signed Stone on Tuesday and added Antwine and Sarell on Wednesday.

Miller was on Denver’s practice squad the past two seasons, and a source said he again could be on the squad this season but will look at other possible options. Sources said Manjack and Sarell could emerge as candidates for Denver’s squad.

Manjack caught three passes for 40 yards in the Broncos’ first preseason game on Aug. 14 at Atlanta. But he didn’t have any receptions Aug. 21 against Green Bay or in Friday’s 34-6 win over Minnesota in the preseason finale.

Sarell played in 41 games the past four seasons with the Los Angeles Chargers, including four starts.

It remains to be seen if Robertson could be a candidate for Denver’s practice squad. He played well against the Vikings, making four tackles, including one for loss, and recovering a fumble.

Players waived would not potentially clear waivers until 11 a.m. Monday, and then practice squads will be set. Payton said Friday that practice will be pushed back Monday to allow time for practice squad players to be signed.

A source said Saturday that outside linebacker David Agoha will sign Monday with Denver’s practice squad. The native of Nigeria will be an exempt player as part of the International Player Pathway Program and won’t count toward the 16-man limit. So the Broncos will have 17 on their practice squad.

Agoha, 25, worked out with the Broncos on Aug. 6 and passed a physical then. Agoha, who didn’t play college football, spent 2023-24 on the Las Vegas practice squad and 2025 on the Tennessee practice squad.
