Wildfire prompts evacuations south of Estes Park

A wildfire near Estes Park has prompted evacuation orders for Pinewood Springs.

The Moose Mountain fire was first reported around 1 p.m. Friday just north of Pinewood Springs, off Highway 36 between Estes Park and Lyons.

Just before 2 p.m., officials issued a mandatory evacuation order for the town and surrounding area, according to fire-tracking website Watch Duty.

A voluntary evacuation order was issued for the area northeast of Pinewood Springs up to Blue Mountain and east to Carter Lake Reservoir.

As of 3:30 p.m., the fire was about one and a half acres in size and moving northeast.

A Boulder County Fire Management spokesperson said the call reached their department at around 12:40 p.m.

Multiple jurisdictions, including Boulder County, Larimer County and Pinewood Springs Fire Protection District, have responded to the fire, which is in a very rocky area that makes it difficult to access, the spokesperson said.
