U.S. Air Force Academy Triathlon Club to host first-ever triathlon event on campus with collegiate and public races

Local triathletes have a chance to compete on the U.S. Air Force Academy campus next month.

The U.S. Air Force Academy Triathlon Club is hosting its first-ever “FalconTri” on Sept. 13, featuring collegiate and open super sprint races (300m pool swim, 5k bike, 1k run) around campus.

The USAT Collegiate Club race begins at 7 a.m., and the open race, open to all age groups, takes off at 11 a.m. with a rolling start. The course begins at the Cadet Natatorium and ends on the academy’s outdoor track.

The age-group race fee is $69.90 until Aug. 31, with all race fees going toward the triathlon club’s travel expenses for competitions. Entries close Sept. 11, and all participants will receive a finisher medal.

“There are not a lot of triathlons around this time of year,” club captain Jayden Randolph said. “We want to get the community involved. Our goal is to fund 40 cadets to nationals, and we hope this event gets us there.”

Last season, the club could only send 25 of its 40 members. The team, founded in 1990, has had success in recent years, including a 16th overall finish at the 2024 Collegiate National Championships and a third-place finish for the men’s team in 2025.

The team competes in sprint and Olympic triathlons during the spring and fall semesters.

Those who sign up to participate will receive a link for a base visitor pass and will need a valid ID for ages 18 and over on race morning.
