Pueblo deputies arrest 2 for allegedly firing 30 shots
Two men were taken into custody by the Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office for allegedly firing shots out of their respective vehicle’s windows on Aug. 14, the agency announced on Monday.
Deputies began investigating after related reports of gunshots in the 1700 block of Santa Fe Drive and near the intersection of South Road and 25th Lane around 2 a.m. that morning. It was later determined to be near Aspen Road and La Salle Road in an unincorporated area southeast of the city, where deputies found 26 spent shell casings.
A Chevrolet Silverado and a black BMW were spotted on security footage as the vehicles involved in the incident, according to the news release. Deputies initiated a traffic stop on the truck after seeing it at a Maverik convenience store in the area of the alleged crime hours after it occurred.
All three occupants of the vehicle were taken into custody without incident, including a juvenile.
Two guns, including one with an extended magazine, were visible in “plain view” inside the truck, which were seized during a search warrant by deputies Saturday in addition to nine spent shell casings.
The BMW had returned to the area but fled as deputies attempted to stop it. The vehicle has still not been located.
The truck driver, Isaiah Trujillo-Martinez, 22, faces charges involving illegal discharge of a firearm, possessing a dangerous weapon, child abuse, prohibited use of a firearm, possessing a large-capacity magazine and reckless endangerment. He is set to appear before a Pueblo County judge on Sept. 21.
The passenger, Oscar DeHerrera, 25, will face charges of complicity, child abuse, illegal discharge of a firearm and reckless endangerment, according to the Sheriff’s Office. Colorado court records show the case against him was dismissed by the District Attorney on Monday.
The juvenile passenger was found not to be involved in the shooting and therefore was not arrested.
