Nikola Jokic says Nuggets will be ‘OK.’ Should fans believe him? | The Starting Lineup

Turn on the game!

Three must-see events this week:

1. Avalanche alumni game (5 p.m. Sunday, Altitude TV) — Watch Avs greats Joe Sakic, Peter Forsberg and Adam Foote skate with University of Denver big wigs like Paul Stastny, Tyler Bozak and Matt Carle at Magness Arena.

2. BMW Championship, final round (Noon Sunday, CBS) — Denver’s Wyndham Clark is once again near the top of the leaderboard. Could we also learn the BMW is coming back to Colorado?

3. Vikings at Broncos (7 p.m. Friday, 9News/NBC) — How much will the starters play in the preseason finale? Coach Sean Payton was displeased after his team’s 33-13 performance against the Packers.

Numbers game

47.1  — percent, the career mark from the field for new Nuggets guard DeMar DeRozan. Denver signed the veteran to a contract on Friday to bolster its bench scoring.

Box office

On this day

Aug. 23, 2001 — Rockies pitcher Jason Jennings made an historic MLB debut. He threw a complete-game shutout against the New York Mets at Shea Stadium. At the plate, he went 3-for-5 with a home run and two runs batted in.

Final word

After Nikola Jokic led Serbia past Victor Wembanyama and France in a FIBA World Cup qualifier Friday, he was asked about the Nuggets trading Peyton Watson. Jokic said he was happy for Watson and also said “we are going to be OK” about next season. When Jokic feels fine about the team, shouldn’t fans do the same? His trademark honesty should soothe some concerns.
