Traffic updates: Marksheffel to see monthlong closure
An important artery in East Colorado Springs will see a monthlong closure starting this weekend, while work continues to finish the Circle Drive bridge complex in Southeast Colorado Springs.
Here are a few major projects that could affect commutes in Colorado Springs this week.
Marksheffel Road
Utility work and road reconstruction will necessitate closures on Marksheffel Road this week. Impacts to traffic are expected to last about a month, according to the city.
Beginning Sunday, Aug. 23, at 7 p.m., northbound Marksheffel will be closed to traffic from Tamlin Road to Tarren Heights. All through traffic will need to turn left at Barnes Road, then onto Peterson Road and Dublin Boulevard.
Emergency vehicles and local traffic to homes and businesses will still be able to enter the area. Crews are planning to maintain access to Huber Road, businesses on Tamlin and the Peoples United Methodist Church via the south on northbound Marksheffel.
Southbound Marksheffel will also be closed at Stetson Hills Boulevard, where traffic will be directed to turn right. Through traffic will then take Peterson and Barnes Road. People will still be able to access the Mountain Preserve neighborhood at Tarren Heights and Reach Church via southbound Marksheffel.
The full project will widen Marksheffel to two lanes in each direction, a center median and new sidewalks and paths. Closures are expected to last through Sept. 18.

Circle Drive bridges
The $50 million project to replace the aging Circle Drive bridges in Southeast Colorado Springs continues, with new closures starting this weekend. Crews are installing a new water main and feeder lines, according to the city.
The bridges are mostly complete, but travelers should expect more lane closures, detours and delays this summer while the finishing touches are put in place.
Two of three eastbound lanes are still closed between Interstate 25 and Janitell Road and will remain inaccessible through early October. On Friday, the median at Janitell Road and Circle Drive was planned to be closed for the weekend. Drivers will see signs posted for a designated detour, and the city says to plan for potential delays. Schedules are based on the adjacent railroad and can change.

Powers Boulevard
Northbound Powers will be closed at Airport Road overnight on Saturday, Aug. 22, for concrete panel replacement. The closures start at 8 p.m. and end at 9 a.m.
Through traffic will need to exit at Airport and follow detour signs. During daytime hours this weekend, at least two northbound lanes will stay open, according to the city.
