‘Pluribus,’ ‘The Last House’ among 5 streaming options
“Pluribus” was a critically acclaimed hit last year on Apple TV. If you’re late to it like me, well, you know what they say: better late than never. Is it a dystopian series? Or is it rather a utopia that has been created by some alien virus that has blended the minds of humanity? Now, seemingly, everyone loves everyone, thinks the same and works together. The main character, Carol, is not convinced. She and another dozen people are immune, left to ponder the merits of conformity and individualism. ー Seth Boster

“Kick-Ass” is streaming on Prime Video, proving you don’t need superpowers to become a superhero — just questionable judgment and a lot of determination. Starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Chloë Grace Moretz, the coming-of-age action comedy puts a hilarious spin on the superhero genre. Moretz steals nearly every scene as Hit-Girl, who somehow manages to be both adorable and absolutely terrifying. It’s the type of movie that definitely kicks … expectations aside. — April Borjon
“Pretty Woman” is streaming on Peacock, and chances are the title alone has you instinctively singing about walking down the street. Or if you’re like me, it has you accidentally thinking someone called out your name. Starring Julia Roberts and Richard Gere, the iconic romance follows an unexpected love story that has charmed generations for decades. Along with being endlessly rewatchable, it’s proof that some fairy tales never go out of style. — April Borjon

A lot of big names inhabit “The Shards,” a new thriller series based on Bret Easton Ellis’s 2023 semi-autographical, best-selling novel of the same name. Set in L.A. in 1981, the nine episodes follow a group of privileged high school friends as a serial killer terrifies the city. Kaia Gerber (Cindy Crawford’s daughter), Homer Gere (Richard Gere’s son), Evan Rachel Wood and Wes Bentley star. It’s on FX and FX on Hulu. ー Jennifer Mulson

Color me intrigued by “The Last House,” a new sci-fi thriller starring Greta Lee, who was excellent in the 2023 film “Past Lives,” another recommendation for you. In the new Netflix film, a family of four is suddenly trapped in their home with no way out and no way to get more food and other resources. They must work together to survive and overcome the mysterious entity keeping them sealed in their suburban home. ー Jennifer Mulson
