Colorado Springs weather: Record could fall Friday ahead of forecast rain, storms over the weekend
Southern Coloradans will be feeling the heat Friday afternoon, with forecast temperatures in the mid-to-upper 90s and possible triple digits for some.
Temperatures in Colorado Springs could break or tie the daily high of 94 degrees, National Weather Service meteorologists report. Further south, Pueblo could break 100 degrees.
Meteorologist Casey Dorn of Gazette news partner KOAA said skies will be mainly clear Friday morning and partly cloudy this afternoon. There will be limited low-level moisture to work with, meaning storm threats will be low.
Dorn said a couple of spotty late-afternoon showers are possible, but they will most likely produce gusty wind instead of useful rainfall.
But the region will get some reprieve Saturday, with the chance for rain and storms increasing.
Saturday will be another 90-plus-degree day, but meteorologists expect rain and thunderstorms that will persist into early next week.
The increase in moisture also brings a renewed threat for flash flooding at the Aspen Acres burn scar. Flooding has already resulted in the death of one person in Beulah and damaged at least 11 homes.
Flood risks in the area are expected to last years, Gazette news partner 9News reported.
Locally, the increase in moisture also delivered a hailstorm Thursday evening in Manitou Springs, where the Weather Service reported quarter-sized hail in the area.

Manitou Springs spokesperson Alex Riegelmann said there was no “notable” hail damage to city facilities. The city’s drainage systems were also effective in preventing any flooding, he said.
