Que Robinson returns interception for touchdown | Broncos training camp Day 16

ENGLEWOOD — A behind-the-scenes look at Broncos training camp practice Wednesday with observations and analysis from The Denver Gazette.

Play of the day

Wide receiver Jaylen Waddle is back to full health after a muscle strain. He proved it during a team period. Quarterback Bo Nix threw a deep ball down the sideline intended for Waddle with cornerback Pat Surtain draped in coverage. Nix threw a perfect teardrop pass that evaded Surtain’s reach. Waddle scored a touchdown. The crowd went wild.

Position battle

Running back: The trio of J.K. Dobbins, RJ Harvey and Jonah Coleman all showcased their skill set. Dobbins and Coleman broke free for several big gains. Harvey caught multiple passes with clean routes and sure hands. It will be difficult for the Broncos to feature three running backs this season. But they might not have a choice. All three are talented.

Stock rising

OLB Que Robinson: The second-year outside linebacker returned an interception for a touchdown in a team period. It happened when the pocket collapsed on backup quarterback Jarrett Stidham as he attempted a throw into the flat. Robinson jumped the pass for an easy pick. He is among several young defensive players who stood out in training camp.

Stock falling

Clock management: The Broncos finished practice with a 2-minute drill that ended poorly. Nix threw a completion to wide receiver Courtland Sutton with not much time left. The offense did not get reset in enough time for Nix to spike the football. The clock ran out as defensive players celebrated.

Attendance check

Offensive lineman Calvin Throckmorton returned to practice.

The following Broncos did not practice Wednesday: linebacker Drew Sanders, wide receiver Michael Bandy and center Alex Forsyth.

Wide receiver Marvin Mims and center Luke Wattenberg worked on the side field for the majority of practice.

Injury report

Offensive lineman Nick Gargiulo is on the physically unable to perform list with a torn ACL. Offensive lineman Michael Deiter and linebacker Levelle Bailey are on injured reserve.

What’s next

Training camp has concluded at Broncos Park. The Broncos do not practice Thursday. The next preseason game is 7 p.m. Friday against the Packers at Empower Field.
