Motorcyclist injured in crash with pickup truck in east Colorado Springs
A motorcyclist was seriously injured Monday following a collision with another vehicle in east Colorado Springs, according to an online blotter entry.
The crash took place just after 10:30 a.m. at the intersection of North Powers and Palmer Park boulevards, police said.
Investigators determined that a pickup truck with a small trailer, heading north on Powers, was turning left onto Palmer Park Boulevard when a southbound motorcycle struck the trailer, throwing the rider from the bike.
The rider was taken to a local hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
The pickup driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with authorities, officials said. No arrests were announced, and neither speed nor impairment is believed to be factors in the crash.
In a May interview with The Gazette, Colorado Department of Transportation spokeswoman Tamara Rollison said motorcycle vs. vehicle crashes often take place at intersections.
“When you’re making a left turn at an intersection, you have a lot of protection around you,” Rollison said.
“A motorcyclist does not. You need to be watchful. For their part, riders should slow down when approaching an intersection instead of trying to speed through it.”
