Eleven Mile drowning victims who died 8 days apart identified

The Park County Coroner’s Office has released the names of two men who drowned at Eleven Mile Reservoir within eight days of each other.

The bodies of Paul Scanlon, 67, and Michael Nwansi, 29, were recovered from the reservoir on Aug. 6 and Aug. 14, respectively, authorities said.

Scanlon, of Arvada, was kayaking Aug. 6 when his vessel flipped over, according to Colorado Parks and Wildlife. First responders pulled him from the water and administered aid, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. Scanlon was wearing a life jacket, officials said.

Nwansi, of Denver, was sharing a paddleboard with another person Aug. 14 when they both fell into the water, according to the Park County Sheriff’s Office. The other paddleboarder was successfully rescued. Search-and-rescue personnel recovered Nwansi later that morning. He was not wearing a life jacket at the time of the incident, officials said.

Both incidents are still under investigation, according to the Coroner’s Office.
