Why RJ Harvey linked up with Bo Nix in offseason: ‘He’s a great leader’ | Broncos notebook
ENGLEWOOD — RJ Harvey spent time this offseason running routes for Bo Nix.
Harvey, a Broncos running back, and Nix, the quarterback, met up to build on the momentum of Harvey’s strong 2025 rookie season.
“Bo Nix continues to develop each and every day. He’s a great leader,” Harvey said following Monday’s practice at Broncos Park. “During the offseason, we got a lot of work together in the passing game. One of the points of emphasis for me was working on my route running.”
Harvey showcased his talents catching the football last season with 47 catches for 356 yards and five receiving touchdowns. Coach Sean Payton recalled Week 17 against the Chiefs when Harvey scored on a broken play with Nix scrambling outside the pocket.
“For a rookie, it was a pretty instinctive play and you would’ve guessed it would’ve been a receiver,” Payton said recently at training camp. “He happened to be in the back of the end zone. He’s quiet. But he’s really smart.”

Defensive lineman Zach Allen said Monday that Harvey “can do it all” for the Broncos.
“Very shifty. But he’s also big and he runs great routes,” Allen said. “When you have a guy that’s just so multifaceted, it’s tough to game plan stuff like that. When he gets one-on-one matchups, he does a really good job.”
Harvey is back to full health after offseason shoulder surgery. He’s more comfortable with long NFL play calls and plans to be more decisive running between the tackles. Harvey carries a strong belief in his Broncos teammates.
“We want to be the best running back room in the (NFL),” Harvey said.
Allen focused on ‘experimentation’
Allen, a first-team All-Pro selection last season, discussed his approach to training camp and preseason games as it relates to experimenting with new techniques.
“I think definitely out here (at practice) there’s probably more experimentation,” Allen said following Monday practice at Broncos Park. “We definitely want to keep a couple of things under your hat for the regular season. But if the basics are working in the preseason games, especially if you’re going against starters, it’s huge.”
Allen led the NFL in quarterback hits with 47 in addition to 38 tackles, seven sacks and six passes defended. His 73 quarterback pressures ranked first among interior defensive linemen, according to Pro Football Focus.
Briefly
Payton has won eight consecutive preseason games after the Broncos defeated the Falcons, 27-7, on Friday night in Atlanta. On Monday, Payton said: “If they’re keeping score, we want to win. Now, we want to evaluate our players as well. But if you’re in there, there’s kind of a standard. I think it’s part of an overall goal of how you approach everything.” … The Broncos logged two interceptions against the Falcons. Allen said: “We have to just keep working it every day and hopefully it translates into the regular season.” … The Broncos announced Monday they have partnered with SRM Concrete as the team’s official concrete supplier. The team recently purchased about 10 acres of land from SRM Concrete located at Burnham Yard, the preferred site of a retractable-roof stadium and mixed-use development.
