Colorado Springs woman had 0.235 BAC in ‘intentional’ fatal I-70 crash
The Mesa County Coroner’s Office determined a fatal head-on collision on Interstate 70 near the Utah border in July was an “intentional act” by the driver, according to a news release by Colorado State Patrol on Monday.
A toxicology report conducted by the Coroner’s Office later found that Briana Brink, 32, of Colorado Springs, had a blood alcohol content of 0.235 percent.
She was driving a Subaru the wrong way on the interstate west of Grand Junction when she struck a pickup truck head-on around noon on July 20, seriously injuring three adults and three children. Colorado State Patrol was initially dispatched to the area after a report of the sedan speeding while traveling the wrong way, according to the agency.
The news release did not specify why the Mesa County coroner believed the act was intentional. It ends by reminding those struggling with mental health or in a crisis to reach the suicide and crisis hotline by calling or texting 988.
