MaxPreps names Cheyenne Mountain’s Landry Roberts Colorado’s best girls volleyball player ahead of season

Landry Roberts has already earned recognition and regular season games have yet to begin for the Cheyenne Mountain girls’ volleyball team.

MaxPreps released its list of each state’s best players Thursday and Roberts secured Colorado’s top spot following a stellar 2025.

That’s back-to-back years that Roberts earned the honor as the Texas Tech University commit also received the distinction as a junior. MaxPreps determines each state’s top player “based on last year’s statistical data provided to MaxPreps as well as local, state or national honors.”

The Red-Tailed Hawks finished 16-8 in 2025, closed the year ranked 33rd in the state and advanced to 4A’s second round at the state tournament as the No. 11 seed. Roberts totaled 385 kills and 62 aces to lead her team and had 259 digs and 71 blocks for second and third, respectively, for the Red-Tailed Hawks.

“I’m proud of her for finding her passion and putting in the work,” Roberts’ father and Cheyenne Mountain athletic director Kris Roberts said. “It’s humbling and flattering to get that recognition. … I’m proud of the work that’s been invested to get there and the goal is always to play in the last game. She’s done a good job of being a good teammate and inspiring her teammates. She stepped significantly into that role last year and will continue that and hone it this season.”

Cheyenne Mountain will have scrimmages Saturday at Rock Canyon, but the Red-Tailed Hawks open the regular season at home Thursday at 6:30 p.m. against Chaparral. This will serve as the first meeting between the Wolverines and Red-Tailed Hawks since August 2023.
