‘Retail crime blitz’ by Springs police yields 6 felony charges, 16 citations, drug recovery
Colorado Springs police conducted a retail crime operation with “several area retailers” in early August, resulting in new citations, felony charges and drug seizures, according to a news release by the department on Thursday.
From Aug. 4 to 7, the operation resulted in the:
- Issuance of 16 misdemeanor citations and six felony charges
- Clearing of seven felony warrants and 23 misdemeanor warrants
- Contacting of eight prolific retail offenders
Police also allegedly recovered 29.27 grams of fentanyl powder, 24 fentanyl pills, 4.09 grams of methamphetamine, 3.84 grams of cocaine, over $6,700 in stolen merchandise, one firearm and one stolen vehicle.
Police credit retailers’ timely reporting, surveillance video and coordinated loss-prevention efforts in allowing the operation to be a “success.”
The operation was part of a nationwide “organized retail crime blitz,” according to police.
