10 must-see games from Nuggets’ schedule release | Vinny’s take
The NBA schedule is here, and the Nuggets should be thrilled.
After a regular season littered with one-game road trips and homestands that had coach David Adelman feeling like his team was never in one place for long to start the season, Denver has fewer of each this season. There are also 14 back-to-back sets this season, three fewer than last season. The longest road trip of the season is four games, though that happens four times, while the longest homestand is a seven-game stretch in the middle of January.
Between NBC (eight), Amazon Prime (seven), ESPN (six), ABC (4), and Peacock (3), the Nuggets were selected for 28 games on national television.
Here are 10 of the biggest games from the regular-season slate:
Oct. 22 at Oklahoma City
There are still some questions about what the Nuggets’ roster will look like next season. Will Peyton Watson be in a Nuggets uniform? If he is, does that mean another rotation piece is playing elsewhere? Is Denver really planning on going into the season with Tyus Jones and two-way guard KJ Simpson as Jamal Murray’s backups? Will Trevon Brazile be in the rotation? The answers to those questions will come into focus by the Nuggets’ season opener. It will be quite a test. The Thunder will have already played their first game, a rematch of last season’s conference finals in San Antonio.
Nov. 7 vs. Indiana, Mexico City
The Nuggets will play a regular-season game outside of the United States for the second time in franchise history. Denver’s 1-0 in such games, beating Indiana in London in 2017. The Pacers should be back to being a competitive outfit after Tyrese Haliburton missed all of last season to rehab the torn Achilles he suffered in Game 7 of the 2025 NBA Finals. The NBA owes Nikola Jokic a game in Belgrade before his career is over, but the trip to Mexico City will have to do for now.
Nov. 27 at Utah
Denver is yet to make it to the knockout stage of the NBA Cup. If that’s to change this year, it probably means winning the group-stage finale on the Jazz’s home court. Utah’s going to be a much better and more competitive team after paying fines for the way it handled last season’s roster. There’s a jumbo frontcourt led by Lauri Markkanen and Jaren Jackson Jr. and an exciting addition to the backcourt in Darryn Peterson, the No. 2 overall pick.
Dec. 25 at Golden State
While fans might not be encouraged by Denver’s quiet offseason up to this point, the league still sees the Nuggets as a team worthy of being part of the Christmas Day slate. The Nuggets and Warriors will cap a day full of elite hoops in San Francisco. While the Nuggets and Warriors never developed much of a rivalry, there’s no telling how many matchups are left between the Jamal Murray and Jokic-led Nuggets and the Stephen Curry and Draymond Green-led Warriors. That makes this appointment viewing.

Dec. 28 vs. Minnesota
The Timberwolves shook things up this offseason, trading Julius Randle to Brooklyn and Naz Reid to Charlotte in separate deals, but Anthony Edwards, Jaden McDaniels and Rudy Gobert are still in Minnesota. McDaniels played the villain extremely well in Minnesota’s six-game triumph in the first round. The 8:30 p.m. local tip will be the first chance to see if there’s still any bad blood from last season’s playoff series. The two teams conclude the 2026 portion of the schedule a few days later in Minnesota and are featured during the NBA’s “Rivals Week” in late January.
Jan. 2 vs. New York
The champions come to town to kick off the 2027 portion of the season. New York retained almost all of its rotation from last season, so it should serve as a good measuring-stick game. Unfortunately, it’s the first leg of a tough back-to-back set for the Nuggets, who host the Pistons the following night and the first of three games in four nights. The Knicks and Nuggets play again on Jan. 11 at Madison Square Garden, but it is once again the first night of a back-to-back for Denver, which plays in Milwaukee the following night.
March 14 vs. Miami
In addition to being the first matchup against the Heat since the blockbuster trade for Giannis Antetokounmpo, it’s also the only opportunity for Nuggets fans to show their appreciation for Tim Hardaway Jr.’s efforts last season. Hardaway made the second-most 3-pointers in a season in franchise history and consistently outperformed his contract in his lone season with the Nuggets. Even though it was a short stint in Denver, there was plenty of footage to put together a video appreciating Hardaway’s contributions before he returned home on a contract Denver couldn’t realistically offer.
March 28 vs. Philadelphia
No team had a splashier offseason than the 76ers, who acquired Jaylen Brown from Boston before winning the LeBron James sweepstakes last month. Then, there’s the potential showdown between Joel Embiid and Jokic. To top it all off, it could also serve as James’ final game in Denver. NBC owns the broadcast rights for one of the most compelling matchups of the season. With Denver’s trip to Philadelphia scheduled for Dec. 2, the game could serve as the last time the Nuggets face off against one of the game’s all-time greats.

April 9 at San Antonio
April 11 vs. Oklahoma City
The Nuggets once again close the regular season with games against the Spurs and Thunder. Last season’s close was a bit of a dud. Oklahoma City and San Antonio had their playoff position locked up and mostly rested the stars, and Denver didn’t have much control of its situation and did the same. It’s doubtful that will be the case this season. If playoff positioning is on the line, the Friday night game in San Antonio and the season finale against the Thunder on Sunday will be appointment viewing. Meaningful matchups against Victor Wembanyama and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander would also serve as strong data points for Jokic in a potential Most Valuable Player race.
