Fire contained, evacuations lifted north of Colorado City

The Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office lifted an evacuation order after an hour for a fire that ignited Wednesday north of Colorado City on South Crow Cutoff became contained, the office announced on social media.

The Sikes Ranch fire was discovered at three acres around 3 p.m. and was fully contained at 6 acres by 5:15 p.m.

Fire agencies from around the county were working on the Sikes Ranch fire, including those from Rye, Beulah, Hanover, Pueblo and Pueblo West, in addition to air support.

A reception center was established at the Pueblo County Parks and Recreation building for evacuees. 4BarS was open as a large animal shelter.

No other information was immediately available about the fire. Federal dispatch data shows a smoke check was initiated for the area at 3:05 p.m.

None of the dwindling resources on the Aspen Acres fire have been pulled away from it, and the new start is outside of its perimeter, an incident command spokesperson told The Gazette.

Thunderstorms had been rolling through the area around the time of the fire’s start. Temperatures were in the 90s in Colorado City on Wednesday, and wind speeds were forecast to increase overnight.
