Five people are dead after a vehicle drove off a cliff Sunday in Colorado.

The Grand Junction Police and Fire departments responded to the crash around 7:45 a.m. in the 2000 block of Lookout Lane and found the vehicle down on a hillside.

Five people were found dead as a result of the crash, police said in a news release.

Investigators said it appeared the vehicle was heading south on Lookout Lane when it veered off the road and down the steep hillside. Police said they are investigating whether speed was a factor in the crash.

Several agencies worked together to recover the bodies, including the Grand Junction Police and Fire departments, Mesa County Search and Rescue and the Mesa County Coroner’s Office.

The coroner’s office will release the identities of the dead after it is able to notify the appropriate people.

Grand Junction police said it has a victim services unit set up for anyone impacted by the quintuple-fatal crash.
