WR Marvin Mims continues to make plays | Broncos training camp Day 4

ENGLEWOOD — A behind-the-scenes look at Broncos training camp practice Saturday with observations and analysis from The Denver Gazette.

Play of the day

During the first 11-on-11 period of practice, quarterback Bo Nix escaped the pocket and threw off balance to his right. He tossed a 50-yard touchdown pass in stride to wide receiver Pat Bryant, who made a last-minute adjustment to catch the football. The Nix-Bryant connection could be one to watch moving forward.

Position battle

Backup quarterback: No. 3 quarterback Sam Ehlinger got some work with the second-team offense on Saturday. Coach Sean Payton downplayed the significance of those snaps. But he also previously said there is a competition for backup quarterback. The job is not guaranteed to Jarrett Stidham. Ehlinger looked sharp on Saturday.

Stock rising

WR Marvin Mims: The fourth-year pro has consistently made highlight-reel catches over the early portion of training camp. The wide receiver room is stacked after the Broncos traded for Jaylen Waddle this offseason. But Mims is making his case for a role beyond returning punts in 2026. He’s been among the most productive wide receivers to this point in camp.

Stock falling

Two-minute offense: The Broncos closed practice on Saturday with a two-minute drill won by the defense. The offense stalled outside of field goal range. It’s no cause for concern as the pendulum swings back and forth over training camp. On Saturday, the defense stepped up.

Attendance check

Tight end Caleb Lohner (knee), linebacker Drew Sanders (undisclosed) and wide receiver Joseph Manjack (undisclosed) were not seen practicing on Saturday.

Injury report

Offensive lineman Nick Gargiulo is on the physically unable to perform list with a torn ACL. Inside linebacker Jordan Turner is on the non-football injury list with an undisclosed issue.

What’s next

There is a player rest day on Sunday. Training camp continues with practice at 10 a.m. Monday at Broncos Park.
