The Colorado Bureau of Investigation and the Cañon City Police Department are seeking information regarding the death of a man, missing for nearly three years, whose remains were discovered earlier this month, according to a news release Tuesday.

Shawn Michael Dixon, Sr., 47, had not been seen or heard from since Sept. 12, 2023, when he exited a taxi near Rudd Park. He was supposed to meet his family later that evening but never arrived, officials said.

Hikers found Dixon’s remains near Skyline Drive in Cañon City on July 19.

Autopsy results are pending, officials said. The CBI has taken the lead in the investigation.

Anyone with information that might help the case is asked to leave an anonymous tip with Fremont County Crime Stoppers at (719) 275-STOP [7867]. Tips leading to an arrest could be eligible for a cash reward.
