Fort Carson will test an outdoor mass notification system Thursday and Friday.

The notification system, called Giant Voice, consists of strategically placed outdoor speakers that provide postwide announcements.

It is used to notify the base of severe weather and force-protection events.

The announcements will specify that the alerts are part of a test.

Residents are asked to remain calm and not contact emergency services during the testing periods.

In the event of an actual emergency, Giant Voice messages will notify personnel of safety precautions associated with the event.
