Scorching temps prompt heat advisory for Colorado Springs; monsoons expected
High temperatures Monday have prompted a heat advisory for El Paso County and parts of Fremont County, with monsoonal moisture forecast to increase throughout the week.
With an expected high of 98 degrees Monday, the heat advisory was scheduled from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., according to the National Weather Service in Pueblo.
The Weather Service posted heat safety tips for the scorching temperatures, including a notice to never leave children or pets unattended in vehicles; what to do in the case of heat exhaustion and heat stroke; and recommendations to limit time outdoors and to stay hydrated.

The historical high for July 20 in Colorado Springs is 98; a chance of beating that high temperature record lingers.
As the week continues, highs in the 90s will remain for much of southern Colorado, but afternoon showers are possible and could provide much-needed moisture and relief from the heat, according to the weather agency, though flash flood worries are heightened in areas of burn scars.
Monsoon season in the southeast U.S, including Colorado, typically begins in mid-July and runs through August, resulting in heightened chances of precipitation, according to the Weather Service.
Here’s a look at this week’s forecast:
