2 in early 20s ID’d as victims of Colorado Springs motorcycle crashes

Colorado Springs police announced the identities of two motorcyclists killed in separate July crashes in the city.

McCain Dean, 20, and Talon Severe, 21, were identified as victims of crashes on July 5 and July 10, respectively, according to news releases by the department.

Dean was traveling northbound on Union Boulevard when he was hit by a pickup truck going westbound. He later died of his injuries despite medical intervention, according to police.

Speed is considered a possible factor in the crash, but an investigation by police is active and ongoing.

On July 10, Severe’s motorcycle left the roadway in the 1800 block of North Academy Boulevard after failing to “negotiate the curve,” according to police. Severe was pronounced deceased at the scene, and the crash remains under investigation.

Anyone with information about either crash can call CSPD at 719-444-7000 or remain anonymous on the Crime Stoppers tip line at 719-634-7867.

At the time of the second crash, there were 32 traffic fatalities in Colorado Springs this year, which is six more than this time a year ago. In the past 12 months, the city has had 59 traffic fatalities.

Editor’s note: This article was updated to accurately state the victim’s name after CSPD initially announced it as “Dean McCain.”
