RV rolls over, ignites during kidnapping pursuit by Pueblo police

Pueblo police arrested a man Wednesday evening after he fled officers in an RV that later crashed and caught on fire, police said in a news release.

Officers responded at about 11 p.m. to a report of menacing and kidnapping at a convenience store in the 1400 block of East Monument Avenue when the RV fled the area.

Police pursued the RV due to the “nature of the initial call,” police said. The RV crashed and rolled onto its side in the 1100 block of Troy Avenue when officers used a pursuit intervention technique.

The RV caught fire as officers evacuated its occupants, including a child, according to police. No one was injured in the crash.

Police said they arrested the driver, 42-year-old John Delira-Alires, on suspicion of second-degree kidnapping, vehicular eluding, child abuse, reckless driving, restraining order violation and felony warrants.

Delira-Alires has been charged several times in Pueblo County on various charges since 2012, Colorado court records show.

Most recently, he was arrested and charged with vehicular eluding, among other charges, on both Jan. 6 and Jan. 19.

As of Thursday afternoon, he had not posted either of his $10,000 bonds, according to Pueblo County jail logs.
