Motorcyclist seriously injured in crash in east Colorado Springs

A motorcyclist was seriously injured following a collision with a recreational vehicle on Sunday, according to the Colorado Springs Police Department.

The crash took place just after 3 p.m. in the 2200 block of East Platte Avenue when an RV, towing a trailer in the eastbound lanes of Platte Avenue, slowed to turn into a parking lot. A motorcycle, following the RV, failed to stop in time and rear-ended the trailer, police said. The rider was ejected from the motorcycle.

Bystanders rendered aid to the injured rider until medical personnel arrived. The motorcyclist has been hospitalized with “serious, life-threatening injuries,” CSPD said.

Neither speed nor impairment is considered to have been a factor in the crash. The motorcycle rider was wearing a helmet, police said.
