Colorado Springs weather: Elevated temperatures, possible thunderstorms this week

Colorado Springs residents can expect elevated temperatures for much of the week, but with a welcome dose of moisture, according to Gazette news partner KOAA.

Monday should be mostly sunny with patchy smoke from the Aspen Acres wildfire burning in Pueblo and Custer counties, News 5 meteorologist Casey Dorn said. Temperatures are expected to reach a high of 90 degrees, with about a 10% chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon.

“Winds will be light this morning from the east,” Dorn said. “They’ll shift southeast this afternoon, at 5-10 mph. This upslope flow is part of why wildfire smoke won’t be as bad today as it was last week.”

A “monsoon-like pattern” will move into the Pikes Peak region on Tuesday, bringing scattered thunderstorms over most mountain areas for the remainder of the week, Dorn said.

“These storms will move through the Pikes Peak region during the early afternoons,” he said.

This weekend will be even hotter, with highs in the mid-90s.

Here is the week’s forecast from the National Weather Service:

Tuesday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms before 3 p.m., then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm between 3-5 p.m. Increasing clouds, with a high near 91.

Wednesday: Showers and a possible thunderstorm after 12 p.m. High near 93 degrees. Chance of precipitation: 80%.

Thursday: Showers likely, with a possible thunderstorm after noon. Mostly sunny, with a high near 89. Chance of precipitation: 70%.

Friday: A 40% chance of showers and thunderstorms after noon. Sunny, with a high near 87.

Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 94 degrees. Light and variable winds.
