A shooting at the Rio Grande Motel in Monte Vista on Saturday evening resulted in the second homicide at the motel this year, according to a news release by Monte Vista police.

Officers responded around 7:30 p.m. to the motel after a report of someone with a gunshot wound and found a deceased 45-year-old male upon arrival.

Police have requested that the Colorado Bureau of Investigation assist with the shooting investigation, in addition to the other homicide at the motel. There is no ongoing threat to the public.

Anyone with information about the incident or who was around the Rio Grande Motel at 25 N Broadway St. on Saturday evening is asked to call police at 719-852-5111.

The identity of the victim will be released by the Rio Grande County Coroner’s Office once proper notifications are made.

The homicide comes after a man, 27, allegedly fatally stabbed a 44-year-old man at the motel in March, police previously said. However, the suspect has no publicly available criminal court case history, Colorado court records show.
