Switchbacks earn victory over FC Tulsa after strong second half
After a quiet start to Saturday’s match, the Colorado Springs Switchbacks ended the night with a ruckus.
The Switchbacks beat FC Tulsa 2-1 at ONEOK Field in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to improve to 4-4-4 this season.
FC Tulsa entered the locker room with a 1-0 lead after a late first-half goal from Rémi Cabral put the Switchbacks in a bind. But Juan Tejada erased that deficit in the 55th minute to tie the match at 1-all.
After Patrick Burner’s shot pinballed off multiple FC Tulsa players, Tejada managed to locate it and fired the ball past the keeper to tie the contest.
Tejada, who scored on his only shot of the night, then earned an assist in the 60th minute to put the Switchbacks ahead 2-1.
As Tejada pushed the attack downfield, FC Tulsa’s Lamar Batista thwarted Tejada’s pass attempt to Khori Bennett. But Tejada recovered the ball and sent it toward Jonas Fjellberg, who sprinted from the left of the pitch and rifled a shot past the defense to give the Switchbacks the advantage. Switchbacks goalie Colin Shutler had the lone save of the match and brought his total to six in seven starts.
The Switchbacks return to Weidner Field at 6 p.m. Wednesday for their match with San Antonio FC (5-6-2).
