A handful of movies and series worth streaming

After two years, the wait is almost over. The third season of “House of the Dragon” premieres Sunday, returning us to the world of Westeros. Back we go to this fantastical land of Medieval drama and war where we have escaped since 2011, when “Game of Thrones” began its streaming rule over us. “House of the Dragon” is a prequel that, true to the name, boasts more beasts of the sky. Of course, if you’re a fan, you already know that. If you’re not, it’s time to catch up. The past two seasons are available on HBO Max, where new episodes will be airing every Sunday into August. ー Seth Boster

The dance floor that John Travolta made famous in “Saturday Night Fever” is up for auction. (Paramount Pictures/Zuma Press/TNS)

Don’t you ever just want to put on your platforms, strut down the street to “Stayin’ Alive” by the Bee Gees and somehow find yourself in the middle of a ‘70s dance floor? Or even better, don’t you want to watch John Travolta do it instead? “Saturday Night Fever” is streaming on Netflix, and if you’re looking for a movie that gets you in the dancing mood, this disco classic still delivers. Are your go-go boots ready? Do you have “The Hustle” memorized? Either way, your Saturday night is about to get a whole lot groovier. — April Borjon

Jennifer Gray and Patrick Swayze in “Dirty Dancing.” (Vestron Pictures/Entertainment Pictures/Zuma Press/TNS)

As you can probably tell, I’m in the mood to shimmy. “Dirty Dancing” is available on Sling TV, making it the perfect excuse to revisit the beloved romance starring Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey. “Nobody puts Baby in a corner,” but this weekend, I’ll happily be parked in one on a comfy couch watching every dance move, dramatic moment and unforgettable lift. Actually, if anyone’s offering, I’d be happy to let a Patrick Swayze dupe lift me off my couch. — April Borjon

The Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders perform before the last home game of the season against the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday, Dec. 21, 2025, at AT&T Stadium.

My cheerleading background is zilch, but I’m still fascinated and horrified by what the Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders put their bodies through during a football season. Season three of “America’s Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders” is back on Netflix. Once again, we’ll follow along as hopeful young women from across the country travel to auditions, where a tough panel of judges eyeballs their every move. And once they make the squad, we watch them practice the signature, hip-destroying, knee-wrecking jump split to AC/DC’s “Thunderstruck.” — Jennifer Mulson

Patrick Wilson and Amy Adams in “Cape Fear.”(Apple TV/TNS)

I have some quibbles about remaking classic films, but in case you never saw the original 1962 “Cape Fear,” with Robert Mitchum, based on John MacDonald’s 1957 novel, “The Executioners,” or the terrifying 1991 remake with an out-of-control Robert De Niro, here’s your chance to catch an updated version. Amy Adams and Javier Bardem star in Apple TV’s new 10-part series about a convicted murderer, played by Bardem, who’s released from prison and wreaks havoc on the married lawyers who put him in jail. — Jennifer Mulson
