Walsenburg Junior/Senior High School evacuated after bomb, weapons threats

Several law enforcement agencies evacuated Walsenburg Junior/Senior High School on Monday after a bomb threat and report of weapons at the school were called into the city’s police department, according to police.

Walsenburg police determined the reports were not deemed credible after clearing the school and surrounding areas.

The neighboring Peakview School was closed due to safety concerns, Huerfano District RE-1 posted on social media.

All students were reunited with their parents or guardians, according to police.

Walsenburg has about 3,000 residents, according to the U.S. Census Bureau, and is around 90 miles south of Colorado Springs.
