Crime recap: 328 arrested last week in El Paso County

Colorado Springs police saw a homicide, a downtown carjacking and fatal crashes last week, with law enforcement making a total of 328 arrests in El Paso County.

From April 12 to April 18, the Colorado Springs Police Department posted six blotter entries to its database of arrests approved for public release. Here is a recap of those entries:

On Tuesday, police arrested a woman with an active arrest warrant, Crystal Burke, after a short standoff at a residence in the 7500 block of Hickorywood Drive. Police attempted to coerce Burke from the residence, eventually obtaining a search warrant and releasing chemical munitions before locating her “hiding inside a dry sump pump under the stairs.”

Early Friday morning, a victim was carjacked at gunpoint by two male suspects in downtown Colorado Springs. When a nearby officer attempted to stop the stolen vehicle, a Jeep Grand Cherokee, the suspects fled. After locating the suspects again, police engaged in a short pursuit before deeming the operation unsafe for the public. Colorado State Patrol eventually located the empty vehicle before engaging in a separate pursuit, from which the suspects recovered the stolen Jeep. The suspects have not been located, and no arrests have been announced.

Late Friday night, police responded to a disturbance in the 1500 block of East Buena Ventura Street, where a man had been shot in the torso by a female suspect, Danna Corral-Montelongo, 23. The victim succumbed to his injuries at a hospital and Corral-Montelongo faces charges of murder in the second degree.
