Colorado Springs weather: Near-record high expected Monday

Colorado Springs is expected to flirt with record-high temperatures before the city gets a brief respite from recent dry conditions, according to the National Weather Service in Pueblo.

Monday will be partly sunny with a high of 70 degrees, just shy of the March 2 record of 72, the weather agency predicts. That mark was set in 2022.

A 10-degree temperature drop is on tap for Tuesday, with a high possibility of showers and a possible thunderstorm, the Weather Service said. The precipitation is not expected to amount to much; new rainfall may amount to less than one-tenth of an inch if there’s no thunderstorm.

The storm system should hold out long enough for astronomy lovers to see the lunar eclipse, according to Gazette news partner KOAA.

“This is also known as a blood moon because of the red hue,” said News 5 Meteorologist Lauren Brand.

Here is the rest of the week’s forecast from the National Weather Service:

Tuesday: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm, mainly after 2 p.m. Increasing clouds, with a high near 60 degrees.

Wednesday: Sunny, with a high near 62. Light and variable winds.

Thursday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 65. West winds of 5-15 mph.

Friday: Chance of rain and snow showers before 11 a.m., then snow showers likely. Partly sunny with a high near 47.

Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 55. South-southwest winds 5-10 mph.
