Crime recap: 305 arrested last week in El Paso County

Colorado Springs police saw gun violence, crime sprees and DUI’s last week, among other offenses, with law enforcement making 305 arrests in El Paso County.

From Nov. 16 to Nov. 22, the Colorado Springs Police Department posted eight blotter entries to its public database of incidents approved for release. Here is a recap of those entries:

On Sunday, Nov. 16, two men were arrested in the 1600 block of Jet Wing Drive after they allegedly threatened a crowd of people with a firearm, then as they were leaving, fired the weapon “multiple times” into a “crowded parking lot.” Matthew Burgos, 19, and Zaquan Johnson, 21, were arrested and face multiple felony charges.

On Tuesday, three vehicles were stolen and two were broken into in just over three hours in southeast Colorado Springs, within a mile radius of the 3300 block of Afternoon Circle. Kyle Sandoval, 26, was arrested after allegedly “admitting” to stealing two of the vehicles. Police say they are working to connect Sandoval to the other vehicle break-ins.

On Wednesday, police arrested a “top-ten prolific organized retail crime offender,” who has allegedly stolen over $10,000 in tools from retail stores in the past three months. The suspect, Mark Wolfe, 62, is accused of removing the boxes and tags from the stolen tools, “throwing some dirt” on them so they “looked used,” then pawning them.

Also on Wednesday, a DUI driver allegedly assaulted an officer after being found speeding “without the front left wheel” of his vehicle. Marc McCue was arrested after allegedly striking a bus bench and driving away, being found driving without the drivers-side wheel of his vehicle and, upon police contact, striking an officer in the face before fleeing on foot.

On Saturday, police were dispatched to the 700 block of North 19th Street for a domestic disturbance. When they arrived, they found one male with serious but not life-threatening injuries from a gunshot wound. Two women were arrested, Anahi Bobain and Madysan Wright, with one facing felony domestic violence assault charges and the other facing felony assault charges.

Other incidents at a glance:

  • On Thursday, police arrested Glen Frost, who had an arrest warrant for first-degree burglary and third-degree assault. Frost evaded police, and officers used chemical munitions to bring him into custody. A second party, Brittany Lopez, was arrested without incident on four existing misdemeanor warrants.
  • Also on Thursday, Lexy-Rose Dean-Opunui was arrested after allegedly kicking an officer during a traffic stop, after multiple calls reported her car to be involved in a single-vehicle crash. Dean-Opunui faces several charges, including DUI and second-degree assault.
  • On Saturday, Victor Hernandez was arrested after he allegedly kidnapped his ex-girlfriend using a firearm. The reporting party said Hernandez was attempting to get into the victim’s house with the weapon, and when police arrived, they found Hernandez and the victim inside his vehicle. Hernandez was arrested and faces “a multitude” of charges, including second-degree kidnapping.
