Air Force kicker Reagan Tubbs, safety Roger Jones Jr. honored by Mountain West
Reagan Tubbs couldn’t explain his lack of nerves, but it paid off handsomely for the kicker and Air Force.
Tubbs was honored as Mountain West special teams player of the week on Monday after calmly connecting on all three of his field-goal attempts in his first game of the season in that role. He also posted three touchbacks among his six kickoffs and made a tackle in coverage.
Safety Roger Jones Jr. earned the conference honor for defensive player of the week after making 10 tackles (six unassisted) and making the pivotal play of the game on an interception in the end zone in a tied game with 9:30 remaining. Air Force took the lead for good on the possession that followed and won 24-21 over Wyoming, snapping a five-game losing streak.

“I don’t know,” said Tubbs, a senior, after the game in response to a follow-up question after revealing he wasn’t the least bit nervous. “My first field goal when I got to kick it sophomore year I was super nervous. But, I don’t know, I went out there today… No nerves.”
Air Force (2-5, 1-4 Mountain West) had lost its previous two games by three points and missed a field goal in both. The Falcons then inserted Tubbs into the placekicking role and won by three points.
His kicks game from 32, 29 and 40 yards, the first and last of which came into a strong north wind.

Jones’ interception was his second of the season. The sophomore, who has started each game this year, has 27 tackles over the past three games.
Air Force is off this week before hosting Army on Nov. 1.
